Westbridge Renewable Energy Corp., headquartered in Calgary, is looking to build a ground-mounted, utility-scale solar project in the rural area about 35 kilometres northwest of
Energy Ottawa and the City of Ottawa entered into an agreement to pursue solar generation after the success of a 2010 pilot project that consisted of smaller solar systems installed at Ottawa City Hall and the city's Integrated Transit Operations Control Centre on Belfast Road.
To support these goals, Portage Power is proposing new solar generation projects that would add clean, dependable energy to the system. Kanata Solar I & II and Richmond Solar I, II, & III. This will help diversify Ontario's energy supply while creating social and environmental benefits directly for the Ottawa community.
Energy Ottawa generates enough green power to operate 62,000 homes annually and is Ontario's largest municipally-owned producer of green power. Solar power generating systems use photovoltaic solar cells to convert energy from the sun directly into a flow of electrons, which generates electricity for consumers.
For the Ottawa area, these projects offer a valuable opportunity to gain long-term value from sustainable generation, supporting community infrastructure improvements and other local priorities. The Kanata Solar I & II projects propose the construction of a solar generation facility with a capacity of up to 13 MW.
