IEC photovoltaic inverter standards
Scope and object This International Standard applies to utility-interconnect ed photovoltaic (PV) power systems operating in parallel with the utility and utilizing static (solid-state) non-islanding inverters for
All Sungrow's inverters are compliant with the standard AS/NZS 4777 related to grid protection requirements. Those standards dictate for example, that if the line voltage or frequency goes outside pre-determined parameters, the inverter must shut down and decouple from the grid. This also includes blackouts.
For the example solar power conversion system, the AC phase-to-phase voltage is 480 VRMS, the DC link voltage is 1500 VDC, and the open circuit voltage of the PV panel is 848V DC. With the open circuit voltage of 848 VDC, the surge voltage requirement is determined to be 4000 VPK.
Any solar inverter installed without robust anti-islanding capabilities is considered a safety liability. Beyond safety, anti-islanding protection is essential for regulatory compliance. Grid-tied solar systems must adhere to national and international standards to ensure safe integration with the electrical grid.
In the solar power conversion system (Figure 1), the isolated gate drivers and isolated voltage and current-feedback circuits both need to support reinforced isolation. Basic isolation is suficient if another basic isolation is inserted through the isolated data links.
